Cira Salerno was born Oct. 6, 1906, in Manhattan. She was a member of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral and attended St. Patrick's School in Manhattan. As a young girl she worked in a factory. She married Salvatore Salerno and had three children, Paul, Robert and Pauline. They lived in New Jersey and Brooklyn. Salvatore died in 1981. She has 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She has been a member of the Merrick community since the '80s. A party was given at Empire Hose Co. 3 and at Merrick Senior Center with family and friends. She lives in Merrick with daughter, Pauline, and her husband, Tony Luparello. She enjoyed dancing until she was 100 and currently enjoys socializing and watching TV.
