Dorothy D'Ambrose was born March 8, 1911, in Brooklyn. She worked for New York Life Insurance Co., was a substitute teacher for PS 186 in Brooklyn, and was a manager at Abraham and Strauss. Dorothy met Michael D'Ambrose, who was the owner of a pharmacy, and they married in 1934. Dorothy has a daughter Diane (Joy), three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She moved to Atria Senior Living in Huntington on Sept. 27, 2011, where she writes poetry and enjoys the activities. Dorothy said her secret to longevity is, "You have to be kind, active and play Scrabble." She celebrated her birthday at Atria with family and friends.
