ELIZABETH (MAUDE)

ARMSTRONG, née Cochrane, was born Jan. 21, 1913, in Dublin. She came to New York to see her brother and the 1939 World's Fair. Maude stayed in New York and worked in Westbury as governess to Peggy Phipps' children during the war. Maude met Robert Armstrong, who worked at the Coe Estate in Oyster Bay. They married on Dec. 31, 1940, and had four children, Malcolm, Heather, Doreen and Dale. While raising a family, Maude worked at Gertz in Hicksville, Gimbels in Roosevelt Field and Swezey's in Riverhead. In 1978 they moved to New Port Richey, Fla. Maude was widowed in 1997. Last February she moved to Atria Windsor in Bayonet Point, Fla. She has 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She celebrated at a restaurant with family.
