Frances Inez Allen was born March 17, 1911, in Antigua, West Indies. She worked as an independent peanut and candy vendor until her retirement in 2004, when she immigrated to the United States to be near her son, Walter Allen, and daughter-in-law, June, in Roosevelt. For the past three years she has lived in Hempstead Park Nursing Home, where she enjoys stringing beads, going to church services, and visits from her family. She has 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She celebrated her birthday with family at Hempstead Park with Holy Communion administered by Rev. Rasheed Baird of The Greater Allen Cathedral of New York in Jamaica, Queens. Hempstead Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr. presented Frances with a proclamation.
