Centenarian: Gertrude (Etee) Coopersmith
Gertrude (Etee) Coopersmith was born April 1, 1911, in Pittsfield, Mass. At 10, the family moved to Brooklyn. She attended Erasmus Hall High School and Maxwell Teacher Training School. She worked for the WPA during the Depression. In 1934, she wed Hyman Coopersmith and had three children. In the '70s Gertrude and Hyman moved to Florida. Widowed in 1995, she came back to New York, spending many weekends with her daughter, Miriam Feinstein. She has seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She celebrated her birthday at Flushing House, her home since June 2006. She likes to paint, knit, read, do crossword puzzles, use her cell phone and read her emails.
