Centenarian: Goldie Steinberg
Goldie Steinberg was born on Oct. 30, 1900, in Kishinev, then in the Russian Empire, and immigrated to the United States at age 23. She lived in Brooklyn, where she worked as a seamstress. She met her husband, Philip Steinberg, now deceased, while a member of a society of Eastern Europeans, and they had two children. Goldie has voted in every election since 1924. When asked about her secret to her longevity, she says, "My children keep me alive." She has lived at Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Long Beach for the past 10 years. She enjoys watching the Yankees, knitting and helping out fellow residents. She celebrated her birthday at Grandell with family and friends.
