Centenarian: Harold (Hal) Merchant of Manhasset
Harold (Hal) Marchant was born Dec. 4, 1902, in London. He immigrated to America in 1920 and lived in Brooklyn. After graduating from Commercial High School in 1920, he worked for Western Electric, retiring in 1967. He married Claire Marchant on March 22, 1924, and they had two children: Carol, now deceased, and Richard. Hal has one grandchild, Debbie Marchant. He was an avid fisherman, dancer, gardener and baby-sitter. He is a sports enthusiast and especially enjoys baseball. He plays the ukulele and is learning to play the keyboard. He has been a resident of Manhasset since 1947. He celebrated his birthday at home with family and neighbors.
