Harry G. Werner, born March 4, 1912, in Manhattan, was one of four children. Harry was in the Marines, Navy and Army during World War II. In the Navy he served on the USS Pensacola and USS Missouri. After the war Harry returned to Manhattan and worked as a conductor and supply manager for the New York City Transit Authority, retiring in 1968 after 22 years. Harry moved to Long Island, settling in Center Moriches, where he worked as a part-time school bus driver. He was married to Esther Savino for 19 years before being widowed in 1998. He lives at Suffolk Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Patchogue, where he celebrated his birthday with family and friends.
