Irene Garas, born April 29, 1913, in Budapest, Hungary. In April, her story as a Holocaust survivor was read into the Congressional Record. Irene immigrated to America in 1948, settling in Forest Hills, Queens. She married Louis Garas in 1936 and had two children, Katherine and Andrew. Irene was widowed in 1972 and in 1977 married Bundi Eros (now deceased). Irene made and sold corsets and worked in Forest Hills for Cakeland Bakery, owned by her husband and brother. She has five grandchildren, who threw her a birthday party, and five great-grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with family on Long Island and in Queens.
