Centenarian: James Michael Murphy
James Michael Murphy was born Aug. 29, 1910, in Cambridge, Mass. He married Helen Murphy, now deceased, in 1942 and they had 11 children. He is a former resident of Amityville, Dix Hills, Bellport and Huntington and now lives in Little Compton, R.I. James worked for Grumman, Republic Aviation and Roosevelt Field Raceway. He has 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. At 67, he took up long-distance running and has run in 13 marathons, At 93, he was the oldest man to complete the Cow Harbor 10K run in Northport. James exercises on a regular basis. He celebrated his birthday at the Hotel Providence with more than 100 family members and friends.
