Centenarian: Johanna Kowalski Austin

JOHANNA KOWALSKI AUSTIN was born Aug. 18, 1910, in Mechanicville, N.Y. She married Sidney William Austin and settled in Hicksville. She had four children: Sidney, Dorothy and James are now deceased; her daughter Leonora Grunfelder lives in Bohemia. Johanna worked for Grumman Industries during World War II. She lives at Our Lady of Consolation Nursing and Rehabilitative Care Center in West Islip, where she enjoys crocheting and playing bingo. She attends Mass there serving as a lector twice a week. She has eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She celebrated her birthday at Our Lady of Consolation with family and friends.
