Centenarian: Josephine Bacchi
Josephine Bacchi was born April 10, 1905, in the East New York section of Brooklyn. During her high school years she worked in a factory after school. After graduating she went to design school and was employed as a dressmaker, retiring at 72. She had three brothers and two sisters (all now deceased). Josephine never married. She helped raise her nieces and nephews, who call her Aunt Josie (Titzie). In 1993 she moved to Sienna Village in Smithtown, where she celebrated her 107th birthday with family and friends. When asked what she attributes her longevity to, she said, "Hard work and clean living."
