Centenarian: Katherine Weiss
Katherine Weiss, born July 26, 1912, in Germany, was one of 11 siblings. At age 18 Katherine immigrated to America. In 1934 she wed Rupert Weiss, now deceased, and lived in Brooklyn before moving to Elmont, where she lived for 60 years. Katherine had two children who had cerebral palsy, Rupert Jr., now deceased, and Walter. She cared for her children in her home until 2004, when they moved to the Nassau County Cerebral Palsy Clark Street Residence in Seaford. Katherine now lives at the Plattduetsche Home Society in Franklin Square. She attributes her longevity to "faith in God." She celebrated her birthday at Plattduetsche and at the residence with Walter.
