Maria Teresa Brana was born Jan. 26, 1912, in Italy. At eight years old, her family immigrated to America, settling in Brooklyn. She worked at her family's candy store before becoming a retailer at Macy's, where she worked for 30 years. She said her strong work ethic has helped contribute to her longevity. On Jan. 15, 2009, she moved to McPeak's Assisted Living in Patchogue. According to the staff there, she is an active resident, helps decorate the facility for holidays and special occasions and enjoys petting and talking to dogs at the pet therapy sessions.
