MARIE STURM, née Haussler, born Sept. 13, 1911, in St. James, is the second of four children born to Theodore and Irene Overton Haussler. She graduated from Smithtown Branch High School in 1929 and went to work as a secretary for local businesses. She married Richard Sturm in 1933 and had two daughters, Shirley Bishop of Florida and Judy Dudley (now deceased). Marie liked swimming, walking, playing pinochle, doing crossword puzzles, tatting and volunteering. Marie has five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She lives with a grandson in the St. James home built by her husband during the Great Depression. She enjoys cooking meals at home and playing bingo at the senior center. She celebrated her birthday with a family party at a grandson's home in South Setauket and was honored with events at the Smithtown Senior Citizens Department, St. James Methodist Church and St. James Senior Citizens Club. She received 67 cards for her 100th birthday and eight proclamations.
