Centenarian: Ofelia Barges

OFELIA BARGES was born Dec. 16, 1911, in Havana, the third of five children. She worked for 30 years as a shorthand stenographer in private offices in Cuba and 20 years for the Culture Ministry of Cuba. Ofelia never married. She cared for her parents and siblings until they died. Ofelia has a strong Catholic faith and receives communion weekly from St. Elizabeth Church in Huntington Station. She lives with her family in South Huntington.
