Gisselle Lorenzo and Zachary Hirsh first crossed paths at an Applebee’s in August 2018. Lorenzo was returning to the Bethpage location where she had previously worked, and Hirsh was the new manager.
“He was the only person [there] that I didn’t know. He caught my attention,” recounted Lorenzo, 28.
The two lost track of each other but were reintroduced and began dating in March 2019. “He was very personable and charismatic,” Lorenzo said. “And I’m very outgoing as well.”

Five things Hirsh loves about Lorenzo:
Her personality lights up every room; the way she loves him; her ability to keep him calm, steady and grounded; she pushes him to do things and see the world; and watching her build a home with him

Together they enjoy visiting wineries, traveling, trying new restaurants and exploring Long Island.
“She made me the best version of myself,” said Hirsh, 35. “She made me kind of look at life in a different way.”
On May 27, 2023, Hirsh popped the question at Harmony Vineyards in St. James, followed by a celebration with friends and family at his parents’ house.
While Hirsh claims to have perfectly executed the surprise, Lorenzo notes that she “knew the whole time.”
“He told me to dress cute and that was a dead giveaway,” she said. “But what I didn’t know was that the ‘barbecue’ his parents were having for Memorial Day ended up being . . . a party for the engagement.”
Hirsh and Lorenzo married on Oct. 26 at the Watermill in Smithtown, with 140 guests.
During the ceremony, the officiant switched between English and Spanish to pay homage to Lorenzo’s Puerto Rican heritage.
The couple, of Lindenhurst, displayed photos and written stories of the love that has existed in their families.
“We don’t come from any divorced families,” Lorenzo said, “ . . . so it was nice to be able to look back on . . . generations of love.”.
“We’re putting roots down in Lindenhurst, and obviously the next stop for us is a child,” Hirsh said.
