Reports from county or village police, May 2-8

East Farmingdale

On May 8, police responded to a call at Central Avenue between New Highway and Wellwood Avenue, where a group of people were gathered watching a drag race. An Island Park man and a Centerport man, both 19, were arrested at the scene and charged with an illegal speed contest violation. Their cars, a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier and a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse, were impounded.

East Meadow

Jewelry, electronics and money were stolen from a residence on Eighth Street on May 4. Entry was gained through a pried-open rear window.

Massapequa

A 42-inch flat-screen TV and a Yankees baseball paperweight were discovered stolen from a McKinley Place residence May 8.

Cash was discovered stolen May 7 from Mid County Collision on Brooklyn Avenue. Entry was gained through an unlocked side window.

On May 5, a Camp Road male resident reported extensive damage to his 2005 BMW allegedly caused by a man hired to install a fence on the property. The complainant said after he refused to pay the installer in advance, the suspect grabbed a machete from his vehicle and used it to strike and cause damage to the BMW.

Thefts of catalytic converters from three Toyota vehicles parked at Long Island Rail Road lots were reported May 5 and 7.

Merrick

A 1997 Nissan Altima was discovered stolen from Brook Avenue May 4.

Wantagh

A 35-year-old male employee of Paul Conte Chevrolet in Freeport was arrested May 7 and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, third degree. The Centereach man is charged with stealing a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse from his employer. He was arrested at Bayview Avenue and Bluepoint Court.

A GPS unit was discovered stolen May 3 from an unlocked vehicle parked on Aspen Court.

Westbury

An individual reported getting into an argument with a man May 2 on Union Avenue. The man pulled out a knife and slashed the victim's arm.

Jewelry was stolen from a Fieldstone Street residence May 6.

ELSEWHERE

Albertson

A laptop and jewelry were stolen from a Croyden Court residence May 5.

Amityville

An Islip Terrace man, 49, was arrested at his Lincoln Avenue home May 8 and charged with burglary, third degree in connection to a prior burglary at Vincenzo's Restaurant and Pizzeria on Sunrise Highway.

Items, including a GPS unit and a TV, were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Avenue E on May 6.

Baldwin

A 2002 BMW was discovered stolen from Yale Place on May 5.

Cedarhurst

Tires and rims were stolen May 3 from a 2009 Nissan parked on Arlington Avenue.

Freeport

A 2010 Chevrolet Traverse was stolen May 7 from West Sunrise Highway. The vehicle was later recovered in Seaford, and the male operator was arrested.

On May 3, police observed a suspicious man looking into cars parked in the area of South Bergen Place and Pine Street. Following investigation, the Baldwin man was arrested on eight counts of larceny and criminal mischief to

automobiles. The subject also admitted

to larcenies in the Baldwin and Rockville Centre areas.

Glen Cove

A woman, 24, was arrested May 3 on Glen Cove Avenue for assault, aggravated criminal contempt and criminal possession of a weapon.

A man and a woman, 40 and 47, were arrested May 6 on Glen Cove Avenue on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh degree, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument and loitering, first degree.

Hempstead

A 25-year-old man was shot May 7 by an unknown person while he was standing on the corner of Forest Avenue and Adrmore Road.

Hewlett

A GPS unit and a flashlight were stolen from a vehicle parked on Hewlett Avenue May 2.

Lakeview

Jewelry, a laptop computer and a PlayStation 3 were stolen from a house on Sunappe Road on May 4.

New Cassel

A New Cassel man was arrested May 6 after an incident at a Sheridan Street location in which he allegedly stabbed a man on the side of his head and threw a pot of soup in his face.

North Valley Stream

A jacket, $80, a cigarette lighter and CDs were stolen from a vehicle parked on Kiefer Avenue May 2.

A GPS unit, sunglasses and $12 in coins were discovered stolen from a vehicle parked on Custer Street on May 3.

Roosevelt

A 1996 GMC Jimmy was discovered stolen from Valentine Street on May 3.

Uniondale

A 2004 Suzuki motorcycle was stolen from in front of a house on Colonial Street on May 8.

A wallet was stolen from a house on Lawrence Street on May 2.

West Hempstead

An amplifier and speakers were discovered stolen May 6 from a 1995 Jeep on Maxwell Street.
