A Seaford High School student has been making his mark in a variety of fields.

Ryan Baldwin, a senior, has accumulated achievements that range from participating in cleanups in his community to serving as the low brass section leader of his school's marching band.

Most recently, the teen received the National African American Recognition Award from the College Board. To be considered for the award, a student must meet qualifications that include having a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher, attending high school in a rural area or small town, and having taken the PSAT 10, PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test or at least two distinct Advanced Placement exams before their junior year.

"I was really happy, because it's nice to be recognized for my achievements and the hard work that I've put in," Baldwin, 16, said of receiving the award.

Baldwin's other activities include being on the football and wrestling teams, and serving as the treasurer of his senior class and for the National Honor Society. He is also a freshman mentor and a member of the Lighting Club, Model Congress and Best Buddies Club, the latter of which strives to create connections between general education and special-education students.

"I feel like you can lift the spirit of your school, and it's nice to rally the senior class together," Baldwin said of his leadership positions.
