Most couples would agree that planning one wedding is a herculean feat — imagine arranging for three. That’s just what Nandini Trivedi, 31, an influencer and yoga teacher from Garden City, and Vishnu Rajan, 35, a technical program manager originally from Flushing, took on in the past couple of years.
The pair met through a dating app in July 2021, and they soon realized their families had been acquainted for years. Rajan was living in California at the time but was in New York visiting his father when he received a notification he had a match on Bumble.
“He thought I was a girl living in California, as that’s where his location was set to,” said Trivedi. “Little did he know, I was just miles away from him.”
They started dating long-distance, with Rajan traveling back and forth from California over the next few months until he finally decided to sell his house on the West Coast and move to Long Island so they could be closer.
After dating six months, Rajan proposed to Trivedi on Jan. 21, 2022. The couple have married three times since: They had a civil ceremony at a courthouse in East Hampton on June 28, 2023, a South Indian temple ritual in Flushing on June 5 and a North Indian Hindu wedding at The Garden City Hotel on July 5.
This last grand celebration was complete with a ballroom adorned with thousands of flowers and live trees, dandiya dance to honor her Gujarati heritage and a farewell in a Rolls-Royce. Trivedi requested that all guests wear pink to the reception, her favorite color since she was a child.
Trivedi said a highlight was when Rajan danced with their dog, Baby. She said she had custom-made Indian and western outfits for Baby, as well as a dog attendant throughout the day.
“Our wedding was a culmination of all the things we love — from jazz music and fine art to a tropical vibe with lots of pink and green inspired by Palm Beach,” Rajan said.
