70thANN AND SAL DESPOSITO of East Northport celebrated Dec. 27 at a party hosted by their children. Sal is a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II. He retired as head custodian from the Half Hollow Hills school district. They have two daughters (a third is deceased), five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
60thJEAN AND GEORGE BURES of Bay Shore were wed Dec. 30, 1951, at Jan Hus Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. George is a retired OB/GYN doctor in Amityville. They have five children, 15 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
60thEVELYN AND HARRY NESS of Seaford were wed on Dec. 9, 1951, at St. Bartholomew's Church in Yonkers. They celebrated with a dinner party at Pompei Ristorante in West Hempstead with friends and family, including their two children and six grandchildren on Dec. 11. Harry served on the USS Astoria and USS Franklin D. Roosevelt during World War II. They met through Harry's sister and fell in love in letters exchanged while Harry was going to college after the war. Harry is a former vice president at the KPMG Peat Marwick accounting firm, and Evelyn worked as a legal
secretary at Sullivan & Crowell and then turned to selling real estate.
51stMARY AND AL SPECHT of Setauket were wed Dec. 26, 1960. They celebrated with parties, travel and most recently attended the Golden Jubilee Mass of the Diocese of Rockville Centre on Nov. 6 at Christ the King Church in Commack. Al is a retired science teacher at Bayport-Blue Point High School and an avid gardener. Mary is a part-time real estate broker and is active in several community and church activities. They have six children and nine grandchildren.
50thMARYANN AND RONALD CUMMING of Elmont were wed Nov. 18, 1961, at St. Pius V Church in Jamaica and honeymooned in Bermuda. They renewed their vows at a diocesan ceremony on Oct. 16 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Massapequa and celebrated with family and friends at the North Hills Country Club in Manhasset on Nov. 19. They also took a trans-Atlantic cruise in the spring. Ron is retired from the fire sprinkler industry and works part time at a sports center. Maryann is employed with the Village of Floral Park in the public works department. They enjoy traveling, especially cruising. They have two children and six grandchildren.
