West Babylon resident Nick Radesca was looking for a way to spend his time post-retirement when he found SeniorNet and became intrigued by the breadth of volunteer opportunities the nonprofit offered.

He went through the group's formal interview process for volunteers and in 2006 began serving as a coach, whose duties include sitting in on computer classes to help students keep up with the main teacher's instructions.

The more time Radesca, 70, spent at SeniorNet, located at the Family Service League in Huntington, the more he grew to like it. A year later, he offered to step up his responsibilities with the group. He thought he would join the finance committee, but when he approached Slava Vero, a SeniorNet director, she said the finance committee was full but the nonprofit could use someone to do publicity.

"I was a CPA," Radesca said. "I had never written anything, but I said I'd give it a try."

Radesca now heads marketing and promotion for the organization, works on its website and helped launch its Facebook page. His writing worries a thing of the past, Radesca also pens a column in two local publications. For The Village Connection in Huntington, he writes a column on senior living, and for 50 Plus Lifestyles, published in Bellport and available on Long Island and in New York's five boroughs, he writes the "Tech Talk" column.

"There's no one better than Nick," Vero said. "He is a great help to us and representing all that we do."
