Way to go: Isljam Purisic, Lynbrook

Isljam Purisic was recently rewarded for illustrating the art of online manners.

A fifth-grader at Marion Street Elementary in Lynbrook, he won out over hundreds of others in a nationwide fall poster contest sponsored by NetSmartz Workshop, a program of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

The contest, titled "Bad Netiquette Stinks," challenged kids to make an original poster demonstrating examples of proper and improper online manners.

"I like to draw," Isljam said. "It wasn't my best drawing, but I think I did a good job of showing good and bad Netiquette."

He used colored pencils and markers for his illustration, which featured two children talking on separate computers -- with one using bad language and the other chatting politely. He also added two NetSmartz characters: Potty-Mouth Pete and Clicky, a yellow robot.

For winning, he received a $50 American Express gift card and a large copy of his poster. His name also was announced by Clicky in an online video.

"Isljam is very respectful and has a good sense of right versus wrong," said Randee Busch, the school's media specialist who encouraged her students to enter the contest in September.
