A Floral Park student is one of five students worldwide chosen to create products, activities or platforms to address the hopes and concerns of teens worldwide.
Fatima Razvi, a junior at Floral Park Memorial High School, has been selected to participate in the Coordinated Management of Meaning Institute, which will facilitate the virtual collaboration of the students for a one-year period through June 2023. The nonprofit organization strives to contribute to the making of better social worlds by "reflecting on current patterns of communication and building better ones," according to its website.
As part of the program, Razvi will work with students from the United States, Denmark and Norway to create lessons and materials to help teens and young adults communicate about difficult issues, such as mental health and sexual orientation.
To get selected, she submitted an essay that consisted of a personal reflection on why she wanted to join the institute.
"I am just generally passionate about trying to help other people, so of course I wanted to join the institute," Razvi said. "We're creating something that can help benefit all young adults globally."
Razvi is president of her school's Creative Writing Club, vice president of Mock Trial Club, a member of National Honor Society, and next school year will be the president of the Model UN. She also volunteers for a local food pantry.
