The bridegroom is a history teacher for the New York Archdiocese in the Bronx and is the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Barnaba of Westbury and Kathleen and John Hakker of Greenland, N.H. The bride earned a master's in French literature from Syracuse University. The groom earned a master's in public policy from Stony Brook University. They live in Astoria, Queens.
