Alphonse Lage of Merrick recently received the Shining Star Award from the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County in recognition of his dedication and service to the organization as a volunteer since 1964. Lage, a retiree, was owner and president of Columbia Dry Cleaning Machine Corp. in West Babylon, president and chief operating officer of American Suprema in Florida, and vice president of sales and marking for American Permac in Plainview. He is also involved with the Merrick Chamber of Commerce and Merrick Lions Club.
