Barbara Mims of Massapequa Park has been named Art Educator of the Year for the New York State Art Teachers Association's Nassau County region based on peer nominations and her "outstanding contributions" to the field of art education and service to the organization. Mims is coordinating chairwoman of k-12 art for Massapequa School District, which she joined as a teacher in 1989. She is also a member of the Long Island Art Teachers Association, National Art Educators Association, and Art Supervisors Association, among other organizations.
