Barry Kubit of Oceanside recently received the Virginia and Chuck Landis High School Tennis Coach of the Year Award from the U.S. Tennis Association's Eastern Section based on his "exemplary leadership, enthusiasm and team-building skills." Kubit, a retired New York City English teacher, is tennis coach of the boys varsity team and girls junior varsity team at Oceanside High School -- and has led the boys team to 13 consecutive winning seasons. He is also the public high school tennis coordinator for Nassau County and is credited with initiating an annual Long Island Tennis Championship between the top teams in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
