Benjamin S. HsiaoChemistry chair

Benjamin S. Hsiao of East Setauket has been named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science based on his "distinguished contributions" to the fields of polymer sciences, water purification and chemical research and education. Hsiao is chair of the Department of Chemistry at Stony Brook University and has published more than 355 peer-reviewed scientific papers and given more than 230 invited lectures. His research involves the production of filters using nanoscale cellulose fibers derived from plants and trees, which has practical applications in water purification systems in poor countries.
