Christine Chu of Long Beach recently received a Superintendent's Outstanding Appreciation Recognition (SOAR) Award from the Island Park School District in recognition of her "exceptional work ethic, performance, and commitment to excellence." Chu is a computer teacher at Lincoln Orens Middle School in Island Park, which she joined 2002, and spearheaded the district's purchase and implementation of SMART Boards and iPads in the eighth-grade curriculum. She is also adviser of the school's computer club and the school district's webmaster.
