Cindy Theiss of West Islip recently received The Orchid Award from Long Island Family and Consumer Professionals for helping students to acquire "employability and leadership skills that enable them to succeed in life and the workplace." Theiss is a retired family and consumer science teacher for Babylon School District and is vice president for professional development for New York State Association of Family and Consumer Science. She is also a member of the Sagtikos Manor Historic Committee and is a supporter of the historic Conklin House in Babylon.
