David G. Schieren of Long Beach was recently honored at the 34th annual Celebration of Life Gala by the National Foundation for Human Potential in conjunction with Family Residences and Essential Enterprises (FREE), an Old Bethpage-based nonprofit that provides community living for disabled people. Schieren is chief executive of Island Park-based EmPower Solar and was instrumental in helping FREE implement a solar project that is estimated to provide more than $5.2 million in savings over 25 years. He is also involved with the Greater Long Island Clean Cities Coalition and the U.S. Green Building Council, among other organizations.
