Devinder Mahajan of South Setauket has been named a 2011-12 Jefferson Science Fellow, an honor given to 13 individuals nationwide this year by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Mahajan is a professor in the Materials Science & Engineering Department and co-director of the chemical and molecular engineering program at Stony Brook University, with a joint appointment at Brookhaven National Laboratory. He is also the site director for the National Science Foundation's Center for BioEnergy Research & Development and is a member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
