Dr. John C. Pomeroy of East Setauket has received the 2013 Public Service Award from the New York Suffolk County Martin Luther King Jr. Commission in recognition of his work with special-needs children. Pomeroy is an associate professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at Stony Brook University's School of Medicine, head of the university's Division of Developmental Disabilities, and founding director of the Cody Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities at Stony Brook Long Island Children's Hospital. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and has been the author of more than 70 articles, abstracts or book chapters in the field.
