Ralph Barbato of East Islip has been named Physician of the Quarter by Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip based on a nomination by one of his patient's families. Barbato, a doctor of osteopathic medicine at the hospital, remained by the patient's side and ordered urgent dialysis treatments when he discovered that legionella was causing the man's kidneys to fail, the hospital said. He has been an affiliated physician at the hospital since 2002 and is also a member of the National Kidney Foundation and American Society of Nephrology.
