Elaine E. Stillwell of Rockville Centre recently received the Woman of Distinction Award from New York's 9th Congressional District as well as the Simon Stephens Award from The Compassionate Friends, a nonprofit that assists families grieving the loss of a child. Stillwell is the chapter leader of The Compassionate Friends of Rockville Centre, a columnist for Grief Digest Magazine, and a former bereavement coordinator for the Diocese of Rockville Centre. She dedicates her various activities to the memory of her two children, Peggy and Denis, who died in a car accident in 1986.
