Ellen Batista of Hauppauge recently received the New York State Sunrise Award from the American Cancer Society based on her dedication and commitment to "Look Good . . . Feel Better," a society-sponsored program that helps female cancer patients improve their appearance and self-image. Batista, who has volunteered with the program for more than 10 years, is a hair stylist at her own Personal Touch Salon in Hauppauge and at Bobby Dee's Unisex Hair Salon in Smithtown. She also visits people's homes in her spare time to do hairstyling and wig-fitting.
