Winner: Ellen Schuler Mauk

Ellen Schuler Mauk of Garden City was recently honored for her retirement as a professor and had an endowment scholarship created in her name by the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College. Mauk, who was president of the college's faculty association for 34 years, is credited with working closely with college administration to encourage elected officials to provide additional operating funds and working to establish the Employee Medical Health Plan of Suffolk County. She is a member of the board of directors and executive committee of New York State United Teachers and serves on the American Federation of Labor's High Education Division's Program and Policy Council.
