Gaynell Stone of Wading River recently received the Alice P. Kenney Memorial Award from the Alice P. Kenney Memorial Trust of Syracuse based on her contributions to the understanding of the significance of the Dutch Colonial experience in the Suffolk County Archaeological Association film "The Sugar Connection: Holland, Barbados, Shelter Island." Stone has been the association's director since 1983 and is an adjunct professor at Suffolk County Community College. She is also a member of the Society for Historical Archaeology, the Association for Gravestone Studies, and the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities, among other organizations.
