Gordian Raacke of East Hampton recently received the 31st annual Environmentalist of the Year Award from the Long Island Sierra Club in recognition of his efforts to reduce Long Island's dependence on fossil fuels. Raacke is founder and executive director of Renewable Energy Long Island, an organization promoting clean and sustainable energy use, and founder of the Long Island Solar Roofs Initiative, a local partnership established under the U.S. Department of Energy's Million Solar Roofs initiative. He also coordinates public outreach and education efforts on energy efficiency and renewable energy in conjunction with LIPA's Efficiency Long Island initiative.
