Janet Walerstein, of Greenlawn, was recently honored at the Child Care Council of Nassau's 40th anniversary gala at The Carltun in East Meadow in recognition of her "outstanding contributions" to care public policy, the organization said. Walerstein has served as executive director of the Child Care Council of Suffolk for the past 28 years and is a member of the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies and the New York State Child Care Coordinating Council. She was also involved in the passage of the federal Child Care Development Block Grant in 1991.
