Joanna Silberman of Commack has been named 2012 Counselor of the Year by the Nassau Counselors' Association based on nominations from her co-workers and former students. Silberman has been a school counselor at East Meadow High School for 16 years and is co-adviser of the school's Peer Leaders Club, Key Club and National Honor Society. She is also a secretary, program chair, historian, and member of the fall and spring college expo committees for the association.
