John Castellano of Garden City has received the Lawrence Timpa Award for Professional Service from the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission based on his 34 years of legal service to the needy. Castellano is the attorney in charge of the Mercy Advocacy Program at Mercy Haven, an Islip-based nonprofit that provides housing, education and life-skills development to homeless, poor and mentally ill individuals. He has previously held positions at Nassau-Suffolk Law Services, Westchester Legal Services, and MFY Legal Services in Manhattan.
