John Chumas of Port Jefferson is one of three individuals to receive a 2011 Theodore Roosevelt Award from the John T. Mather Memorial Hospital based on his service to the Port Jefferson-based hospital and the communities it serves. Chumas has served as medical director of the hospital's department of pathology and laboratory services since 2002. He is also coordinator of the hospital's tumor board, where he is responsible for its weekly presentation of cases, and participates in Mather's blood utilization committee and the establishment of the hospital's transfusion services policies.
