Kishore Kuncham of North Bellmore has received the Distinguished Educator Award from the India Association of Long Island based on his "outstanding contributions" to education and for being the first Indian-American superintendent of schools in New York State and the first Andhra Telugu superintendent in the United States. Kuncham is the superintendent of Freeport School District and an executive member of Reform Educational Financing Inequities Today. He also serves on the advisory board of the Cradle of Aviation Museum in East Garden City and is a past president of the New York State Association of School Business Officials' Nassau County Chapter.
