Lance W. Elder of East Norwich has received the Harold L. Conover Leadership Award from the Rider University Alumni Association based on his "exemplary leadership qualities in a nonprofit organization." Elder is president and chief executive of Education & Assistance Corp. in Hempstead, which provides educational, vocational, counseling and mediation services to nonviolent offenders and support to families. He is also former chairman of the board of the Health Welfare Council of Long Island and a member of the United Way of Long Island's executive council, Long Island Association and Nassau Community College's Advisory Council on Vocational Education.
