Leo J. DeBobes of West Sayville has received the Regional Safety Professional of the Year Award from the American Society of Safety Engineers Region VIII for demonstrating "outstanding accomplishments" as a safety professional. DeBobes, who has served two terms as president of the society's Long Island chapter, is assistant administrator for emergency management and regulatory compliance at Stony Brook University Medical Center as well as clinical assistant professor and environmental health concentration adviser at the university's School of Health, Technology & Management. He is also an associate professor at Suffolk County Community College.
