Linda Tupper of Elmont has received the 2011 Florence Nightingale Award from Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre for exemplifying the spirit of Florence Nightingale, the English nurse credited with the establishment of the world's first secular nursing school in London in 1860. Tupper is an administrative nursing supervisor at Mercy Medical Center, which she joined as a staff nurse in 1985. She also has held the positions of assistant head nurse at the hospital and has worked as a volunteer and unit secretary at Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream.
