Marguerite McDonald of Port Washington has received the 2012 Visionary Woman Award from the nonprofit Ophthalmic Women Leaders based on her work to "advance women in eye care." McDonald is a cornea, refractive and cataract surgeon at the Lynbrook and Rockville Centre offices of Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island and is credited with performing with world's first excimer laser treatment to eliminate or reduce the need for glasses and contact lenses. She is also a clinical professor of ophthalmology at NYU School of Medicine in Manhattan and an adjunct professor of ophthalmology at Tulane University in New Orleans.
