Marianne Garvin of Stony Brook has received the Practitioner of the Year Award from the National NeighborWorks Association, a national organization that advocates for affordable housing, based on her "commitment to the housing and community development of Long Island." Garvin is president and chief executive of Community Development Corp. of Long Island, a Centereach-based nonprofit that supports the housing and economic needs of local residents. She was also instrumental in the recent development of a 94-unit multifamily rental housing project in Hempstead by garnering local approval and financing.
